Facebook stalked me (and then something awesome happened)!
I was browsing Facebook last week (I am a bit addicted) and noticed that a lot of my former clients were listed under the “People you might know” section.
I didn’t “friend”, my clients, so I thought this is really strange. Then, I saw a lot of people that I had matched with over the years. I thought Facebook was stalking my account. It’s creepy!
I was curious, so I looked through the list of people you might know and did a double-take when I saw that a client had a baby in one of her arms. When I clicked on the picture of her, there were many baby pictures! Oh my goodness, I thought. Then I started to cry.
Elizabeth’s baby may not be the first DC Matchmaking child (we have a few cutie-pies), but it’s a special story.
Elizabeth’s story is one I would like to share with you, because dating can be difficult and hearing of a happy-ever-after gives you inspiration and hope. Her story is my favorite.
Elizabeth, an aspiring coaching client, was sitting across from me a few years ago in my office. She had never been on a first date, or even had a boyfriend. When you are in your 30s, dating can be difficult, but it is even more challenging when you have no experience.
Elizabeth’s weight made things more difficult. It’s uncomfortable for me to address a client’s appearance, even though I am a nice person. But it was necessary.
Once I had established that Elizabeth was comfortable with me, then I told her how dating is more difficult when you are overweight. The pool of men who will be interested in you is smaller. I asked Elizabeth if she wanted to lose weight before working with me. I wanted her to succeed. I’ll always remember her response.
“Michelle if I lost weight you would be sitting next to a thin person”.
Touche. Her honesty was amazing!
Elizabeth said yes when I asked if she would be willing to put in the effort and commitment to complete the process. She said, “Now let’s find me a man.” I liked her no-nonsense attitude and determination. attitude. I laughed loudly!
She continued to say that she was looking for a preppy woman who could accompany her to her parents summer home on Nantucket. Someone who would be able to fit right in with her family.
I thought it was funny that a woman, who had never been on date before, thought she could order a guy wearing a Vineyard Vines shirt and salmon-colored shorts. Ha!
Next week, Elizabeth was scheduled for a photo shoot. I quickly discovered that she is a squinter. To get the best pictures for Elizabeth’s online profile, I shot 640 photos.
Elizabeth followed my advice and did a lot of work. She wrote to many men with my help and went on a number of dates. She learned how to flirt and the basics of dating.
Then it happened.
She finally met the preppy woman of her dreams!
Elizabeth’s boyfriend had fallen in love with her curves just two months after we first met. He thought she was the most beautiful woman on the planet. Wow!
Elizabeth ordered up a man and I will be damned to hell if it didn’t come through. It was done pretty quickly.
She took her boyfriend with her to Nantucket in the following months and he was a perfect fit. When he proposed, I received an email telling me about it. Then, I received wedding photos. We lost contact eventually.
The creepy Facebook algorithm that stalks us reconnected with us this week!
I immediately emailed Elizabeth and asked her about the baby. Her daughter is now two months old, and she’s a total joy.
These stories make me happy. I love what I do!
No matter how long you have been dating or whether you have never been on a first date, you can still find a way to make it work. It’s never too late to develop a smart strategy for dating and give your best.
Your love is there, I promise. If you put your effort into finding love, the Universe will help.
All the hard work and waiting will be worthwhile when you meet “the one”.
He might even wear a preppy shirt.
